Speaking Up for Faith in Modern Times

What times are these that we live in? Many Christians are ashamed of speaking about their faith, fearing ridicule or offending non believers. What do we do? Do we speak up on everyone’s behalf to spread the Word and to wake believers up?

But Jesus said to us to be ‘careful not to practice righteousness in front of other people’. (Matthew 6:1) Does that only pertain to acts of charity, or does that also pertain to a display of faith? Where does one draw the line between sharing Scripture, sharing the Word, and discussing our faith, and proclaiming what we believe.

I think that the best way to proclaim our faith is to BE what we believe in…to Live what we believe…to Live and Be in Christ…to abide in the Lord. To be in constant prayer with Our Father…and then, not our words or actions, but His Light will change this world.

The challenge for us is to find and tread that Narrow Way…in these dark times.

I have learned so much listening to this young man, pointing out things in the scriptures which I missed, although I have read them.

Do Not Be Afraid

Jesus tells us not to be afraid. He tells us this most often than any other advice and direction. It is said that this is said 365 times in the Bible. We have no reason to fear, because He is in control. If we fear, we do not trust Jesus or God, our Father. It is a sign of true faith and love to give up the sense of ‘control’ and let God steer our life. He will always deliver us from evil and keep us safe. He always protects us and guides us. We just have to allow Him to do so. It is either God or us at the wheel…And only He can know what is best for us.

“…Let your requests be made known to God;”

Be careful about nothing; but in everything, by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;

and the peace of God, which surpasses every understanding, shall guard your hearts and your thoughts by Christ Jesus. – Philippians 4:7 (Darby Translation)

“Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.”

15Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. 16Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? 17Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. 18A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. 19Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. 20Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

-Matthew 7:15

“…all the foundations of the earth are out of course.”

God Presides in the Great Assembly

1{A Psalm of Asaph.} God standeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the gods.

2How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah.

3Defend the poor and fatherless: do justice to the afflicted and needy.

4Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked.

5They know not, neither will they understand; they walk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course.

6I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are children of the most High.

7But ye shall die like men, and fall like one of the princes.

8Arise, O God, judge the earth: for thou shalt inherit all nations.

(Psalm 82, KJV)

“I am a feather on the breath of God.”

Hildegard of Bingen

“…an ambassador in chains.”

“Pray also for me, that whenever I speak, words may be given me so that I will fearlessly make known the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains. Pray that I may declare it fearlessly, as I should” (Eph. 6:19-20).

today’s prayer.
